End of Week 1

This past week was absolutely amazing; I dont know if I can even describe it. There was only one bad thing about my week, and that was getting my camera stolen on the subway. I felt like I was being so careful with my purse, but it didnt seem to matter. There was a big crowd of people getting on the subway, and someone somehow knocked my arm out of the way of my purse and unzipped it and stole my camera. It was a bummer! So it will be kind of difficult to upload pictures. I have taken some on my iphone, but I have to be careful where I bring it. This weekend was a lot of fun. I have met some really nice Argentinans that are helping me with my Spanish which is really good. I went to a local salsa club on Saturday with one of them which was really cool. On Friday I went to a gay bar for a going away party for one of the guys (who is gay) in our program. It was really fun, I talked to one guy in Spanish about musicals for a good twenty minutes. Also, to anyone who decides to travel to a foreign country and goes to a guy club, be very aware when people in the club are asking you questions. I accidently told some girls at the club I liked women. It was embarrassing and I had a lesbian following me around the bar the rest of the night. On Saturday my program took our group to a city called El Tigre. Tigre is a little town on a river, it was pretty but cold. We took a boat tour and then went to a parilla (a steak house). At the parilla they serve huge portions of red meat on a small grille that they bring to a table. I was kind of grossed out by it. After Tigre we stopped at a restaurant that was on the ocean for te (tea). It was really cool there were a bunch of locals hanging out in the grass outside the restaurant. Sunday we went to a bunch of different markets where they sell clothes and food around Buenos Aires which

Bienvenidos

Hey everyone,
I am finally in Buenos Aires, and it is an amazing city! There is so much to do it´s overwhelming. So far I have just been getting settled in. My host family is an old retired couple , and they speak no English. I was really surprised by how well I was able to communicate with them. Also, almost no one around the city speaks English as well; so I should be able to speak Spanish really well by the time I return to the states. Getting a cell phone was probably the most difficult experience thus far because I do not completely understand the terms and guidelines of buying the phone in Spanish; my roommate and I spend almost two hours attempting to buy phones yesterday and we cannot get them to work. Communicating with other students is difficult so far because not everyone has a phone to call to meet up, and I do not have access to internet at my house. After a couple of weeks, everything will be a lot easier though. Also the nightlife is really cool here! I met some Argentinian girls at a bar the other night, some who spoke English and were willing to help with my Spanish. I will be posting pictures as soon as the rain lets up so I can bring my computer out!
